Nelson Mandela High School is a highly innovative addition to the Calgary Board of Education’s portfolio. Its unique programme combines the environs of an 1,800 student standard curriculum facility together with a series of vocational programme elements including an aviation hangar, commercial kitchen labs, robotics labs, art and graphics and IT. Physically separated from the standard high school areas, the vocational spaces are afforded the potential for off school hour use by both the students and the community at large.
The building layout provides for the addition of a 500 seat black box theatre, subject to funding by the community.
Project executed together with ACI Architecture, Edmonton.
